Crisis at Christmas

30 Jan 2019

Father and daughter David and Lucy Green recently volunteered with Crisis at Christmas. The charity opens temporary centres across the country for 8 days around Christmas providing vital support and a range of services for homeless people. It is the largest volunteer-led event in the UK requiring a total of 11,000 volunteers to ensure that each centre opens for morning, afternoon and night shifts with a minimum of 100 volunteers required for every shift. During this time guests are offered help to find both temporary and more permanent accommodation. In addition, guests are provided with 3 hot meals each day, medical care, careers advice, entertainment and perhaps most importantly companionship in a safe environment. Lucy commented, ‘Crisis is something I’ve wanted to get involved with for a few years now and I’m so glad we did this year as the whole experience was incredibly positive. I was taken aback by the scale of the operation and the visible difference the charity makes to people’s lives in those 8 days’.
